Tomorrow we will be leaving for Calgary to fly to New York for a short holiday. We picked up a West Jet flight that was 75% off and so we could fly to New York cheaper than to Alberta, of course some of the things we have planned are certainly more expensive than visiting my sister in Alberta.
We are staying at a small cheap (for New York) boutique hotel http://www.mayfairnewyork.com/. I love the name "boutique hotel" which translates to really mean a bit of a "dive" hotel. We are in the room so little and all reports on the forums say the bed is good and clean but no other extras. The elevator is small and only 2 can go in it. But the luxury is that it is 1/2 a block off Broadway and about 2 blocks to Times Square. We will be seeing "Wicked" http://www.wickedthemusical.com/ and also South Pacific" and a tour of Yankee Stadium before they tear down "the house that Ruth built". We are also taking a short city tour ( 5 1/2 hours) that will take us to Central Park, Ground Zero, Wall Street, Statue of Liberty etc. We will do lots of walking and experincing for ourselves a bit of the touristy New York, maybe another time we can get to some other areas.
I know lots of people that go back again and again to the Big Apple once they have experienced it. We shall see.
